Attempts to help regulate in the US!

The senator, Diane Feinstein, introduced legislation, the "Personal Care Products Safety Act" in April 2015 to make it easier to regulate cosmetics and other personal care products.

As she wrote in a recent letter (thank you for passing it on, LB, a long-time AGiR! supporter from California! :) ) :

This legislation would set up a basic regulatory structure, with registration of manufacturers and products, and a uniform national standard. It would also require companies to report adverse health events, follow good manufacturing practices, and keep safety records. In addition, the FDA would review at least five ingredients used in cosmetic products each year to ensure their safety and appropriate use.

While review of 'at least 5 ingredients ... each year' still means at least 200 years to get through the many untested, yet commonly used, compounds about which to be concerned, this is still quite a step forward (if it passes)!

If you want to find out more about this potential legislation, which is also supported by the EWG, you can visit the senator's website.
